Trains
When you come in the yard you will
first notice a few railway items that you may not expect to find in a plant
nursery. This is Andrew’s passion as a
collector of railway antiques and artifacts.

The first thing you will see is the
Caboose. Built by Canadian National
Railways in their Point St. Charles Shops in 1976. This Caboose was used as the office of the
Conductor at the end of the freight trains in Canada. We purchased the Caboose from CN in 1998 as
the railway was downsizing its fleet.
It was shipped to Truro
by rail and trucked to its present location.
The other car in our collection is a former Newfoundland
Railway Business Car built in 1955 by Canadian Car and Foundry for Canadian
National. The Newfoundland
Railway was closed down in 1998 and their railway equipment sold. We acquired this car in 2004 from a private
owner who used it for a cottage in Trinity.
The car operated as a self contained home and office for railway
officials while out inspecting the railway line. The car had three bedrooms, a pantry,
kitchen and dining/living room with an outside balcony.
